HS classification assistant
Generate candidate HS subheadings with sources and confidence, then confirm them in the CN or TARIC.
The assistant turns a structured product description into classification candidates. It retains alternatives when material, function, or composition does not support a single conclusion.

- Questions that distinguish candidates
Method
Search combines the available reference data with drafting assistance. Suggestions remain candidates until checked against the official nomenclature applicable on the transaction date.
Classification example
A 500 ml stainless-steel water bottle is classified by material and function: heading 7323 covers household articles of iron or steel, giving the candidate subheading 7323.93 (of stainless steel). A double-walled vacuum-insulated bottle, however, falls under heading 9617. The assistant shows these candidates with their source and a confidence level; the 8-digit CN code and 10-digit TARIC code must then be confirmed in TARIC.
Limitations
Only competent authorities can issue certain binding decisions. Always verify the code in the CN/TARIC and consider binding tariff information where legal certainty is required.
Frequently asked questions
How many digits does an HS code have?
The Harmonized System is shared internationally at 6 digits. The EU Combined Nomenclature adds 2 digits (8-digit CN code) and TARIC 2 more for Union measures (10 digits), which are used in import declarations.
Can I rely on an HS code suggested by AI?
No: treat it as a candidate. Classification follows the General Interpretative Rules; confirm it in TARIC and, for legal certainty, apply to customs for a Binding Tariff Information (BTI) decision.
Which nomenclature edition does the tool use?
The HS 2022 nomenclature, in force since 1 January 2022. Changes in later editions must be checked in TARIC for the date of the transaction.
